Wireless charging for desk lamps: fitting a 15W module into the base

A desk lamp is one of the easiest products to add wireless charging to — the base already has space and a power supply. What decides success is not the module, it is four structural numbers: cavity height, coil-to-metal clearance, thermal path and FOD behaviour.

What decides success in this application

1. Cavity height

Most lamp bases give 8–12mm. Coil (1.5–2.5mm) plus PCB plus 2–5mm charging gap must fit inside that.

2. Metal interference

Keep at least 5mm between coil edge and any metal part, or add a ferrite sheet — otherwise efficiency drops and the base gets hot.

3. Thermal stacking

The LED driver already produces heat. Choose low-temperature modules with NTC and leave airflow.

4. Foreign objects

Desks collect coins and keys. FOD is mandatory, not optional.
